About Open Workshop
The Open Workshop, Denmark’s animation film workshop, is a thriving, international talent and project development/production centre for animation film, graphic narratives, computer games and cross/trans-media projects, supported by the Danish Film Institute and the municipality of Viborg. It provides the environment, the facilities, the materials/equipment and some of the financial means necessary for artists to develop and produce animation and animation-related projects.
The Open Workshop functions as an artist residence, where both new and confirmed talents, budding artists and professionals can live for a time to work on their personal projects, on their own and together, in a highly versatile and creative environment. It is located inside an animation film school, The Animation Workshop, and also benefits from partnerships with Viborg Municipality.
Viborg is a town with approximately 50.000 inhabitants. It is the capital of both Viborg municipality and Region Midtjylland, and is one of the oldest towns in Denmark, with Viking settlements dating back to the late 8th century.
Viborg is famous for Viborg Cathedral. The construction of the cathedral started in 1130 and took about 50 years. The newest parts of the church are from 1876. The cathedral is famous for its mural paintings by Danish painter Joakim Skovgaard, which depict stories from the Bible.
